Giant Voices in a Sea of Sound

Opening Reception: Friday, March 4, 5-9 pm
Exhibit Dates: March 4-26, 2016
Gallery Hours: Mon-Fri 10-7 pm, Sat 10-6 pm, Sun 12-5 pm

A6 Artist Member Kris Elkin explores the mysterious beauty and perilous state of whale song with an exhibit of original prints.

Before the advent of modern shipping traffic, whales’ songs carried across the vast oceans, helping whales navigate, communicate and forage. Today, whales struggle to be heard in a smoggy roar of noise. The din from ship engines, submarines, sonar signaling, and seabed drilling and blasting has doubled every two decades since the 1960s. Discarded fishing line and nets are also entangling and stifling whales. Diverse groups around the globe are working together to prevent these mighty creatures from being silenced forever.
