A6’s Executive Director, Dawn Boone, worked with students from Redmond Proficiency Academy to create this suite of black and white monotype prints commemorating World Press Freedom Day. These quick, gestural “ink sketches” of vintage typewriters were inspired by the work of 2015 visiting artist Ben Rosenberg, who created a series of four typewriter prints on the day of the Charlie Hedbo attack in Paris. (Rosenberg’s prints were featured in A6’s 2015 exhibit, “The Typewriter Returns!”)

“I have great admiration for the hard-working journalists of our country,” says Boone. “Despite the many advances in technology, the typewriter still stands as a symbol of the dogged persistence of the media in bringing the truth to light.”

Dawn Boone will be demonstrating the monotype printing process on First Friday, May 5 from 5-7 pm.
